Outdoor Wonders and Learning

A Professional Development Opportunity for Educators

Who is OWL for?

OWL is open to North Carolina teachers, pre-service teachers and non-formal educators who want to use the content included within the N.C. Essential Standards and outdoor learning as a method of teaching standardized curriculum.

WORKSHOPS

Workshops are offered throughout the year and are credit-eligible for the North Carolina Environmental Education Certificate program.

CURRICULUM

Open to formal and non-formal educators, OWL offers a free online curriculum guide that provides interdisciplinary activities for teachers incorporating outdoor science education.

Outdoor Wonders and Learning (OWL) provides North Carolina teachers, pre-service teachers and non-formal educators with lessons and resources to conduct science education in outdoor spaces for elementary students.

Why outdoor learning?

Research has shown that teaching and learning in a natural setting improves student behavior, creates a renewed enthusiasm towards learning and improves student performance on standardized tests.
